Anesthesiology

The department of anesthesiology carries the responsibility of ensuring patient safety and comfort during the peri-operative period. The department provides pre-anesthetic checkups (PAC), administers anesthesia, and monitors patients during and after surgery. The department also runs a Pain Clinic.

Pre-Anesthetic Checkup

All patients have to get a pre-anesthetic checkup before being taken up for surgery. The objective of the checkup is to ensure that any preexisting medical conditions are identified and appropriately managed so as to reduce the risk of complications from surgery. The checkup involves a review of the medical history, routine investigations, and specialist consultations when indicated.

Pain Clinic

The Pain Clinic is a multi-disciplinary clinic with a focus on treating both acute and chronic pain. Backaches, cancer pain, and neuralgias are some of the conditions that are commonly treated in the clinic. Adequate attention is given to behavioral and psychological aspects of pain which are commonly neglected. The initial evaluation is by a pain specialist from anesthesiology with subsequent involvement of professionals from neurology, orthopedics, physiotherapy and psychology as per the need of the patients. Some of the modalities used for pain control are nerve blocks, neuro-augmentative procedures and radiofrequency lesioning.
