Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases

The department of dermatology and sexually transmitted diseases provides consultations on the full-spectrum of skin and venereal diseases.These include:

  • Fungal, bacterial and viral infections (warts, herpes zoster, genital herpes and parasitic infestations
  • Skin allergies (atopic eczema, drug reactions, and contact dermatitis due to perfumes, dyes, house hold antigens)
  • Psoriasis and lichen planus (PUVA and UVB treatment facilities available both for psoriasis and leukoderma)
  • Acne (pimples) and dandruff
  • Hair loss (in both men and women) and excessive facial hair (hirsutism).
  • Nail diseases
  • Oral mucous membrane diseases like recurrent aphthous ulcerations, oral lichen planus, leukoplakia etc.
  • Other skin diseases such as vesiculobullous diseases and discoid lupus erythematosis( DLE)
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Procedures
    The following procedures are routinely carried out:
    1. Scraping for fungus and fungal cultures, cultures and sensitivity of pus from skin and genitals
    2. Skin biopsy- routine and excision biopsy, direct immunoflorosis, and tissue cell typing
    3. PUVA, UVB facilities for patients of leukoderma and psoriasis.
    4. Removal and cauterization of warts, cutaneous tags, holes, and precancerous skin disease
