Is there something wrong?
Millions of men in our country, from all age groups and
from all walks of life, have sexual health concerns. Yet
most men just accept their condition as something they
have to live with. Many think that sexual problems are inherited at birth and cannot be resolved, are a normal consequence of ageing, or an unfortunate side effect of an accident, illness or surgery. Most don't even talk about the issue to anyone including their wives, partners or counselors. Traditionally even doctors feel uncomfortable with sexual issues, thus leaving such problems un-addressed.
Until very recently treatments for male sexual health problems were expensive and ineffective. Today however,
this situation has undergone a revolution. Doctors and sex counselors understand much more about the organic and psychosocial basis of sexual problems, and are able to offer safe and effective modalities of treatment.
Do I need sex therapy?
Like other body processes, sexual function goes along smoothly, it is usually taken for granted and given little thought. But if sexual function becomes a problem it can be a source of anxiety, anguish and frustration. This in turn may lead to general unhappiness and distress in personal relationships. One might want to consider sex therapy if any one of the following is applicable:Sexual incompatibility
- Low or impaired sexual desire
- Compulsive sexual behavior
- Premature ejaculation or
- Gender identity disorder and gender reassignment
