Pediatrics and Neonatology

The Department of Pediatrics is an integral part of Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science and Research. The department is coordinated by the Head of Department who along with the team of consultants, residents and nurses, ensures smooth running of the department as per NABH standards.

The department follows good clinical practices including international guidelines such as standard national guidelines (wherever available).

Services Available

OPD Services

  • Physical examinations.
  • Investigations to arrive at diagnosis.
  • OPD procedures like FNAC, Thoracentesis, paracentesis, lumbar puncture, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.
  • Completion of OPD documents.
  • Preventive Pediatric Care including vaccination, counseling, anthropometry and developmental examination.
  • Community outreach program including health camps and health talks.
  • Implant services providing OPD consultation on site for corporates.
  • Specialised clinics: Tobacco cessation and Arthritis clinic.

In patients

Provision of care to normal newborns delivered at the hospital including newborn care counseling, lactation counseling, vaccination, hearing screening and acreeing for other congenital anomalies.

Investigation, diagnosis and management of all medical disorders admitted to the in patient department, including the NICU, ICU and the wards.

Emergency services

The Pediatrics department provides emergency services 24 hours a day and evidence based management of all emergencies presenting to the casualty.

Referrals and Post operative support

The Pediatrics department provides supportive care and management of complications or side effects encountered by other related specialties such as Pediatric Surgery etc

Teaching and Training of doctors and nurses

Teaching and training of resident doctors and nurses is done by Pediatric consultants on a regular basis. The department of Pediatrics also coordinates and actively participates in the CME program at SBISR.

Research

Pediatric consultants actively participate in ongoing projects and are encouraged to publish papers and present them in conferences.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Sitaram Bhartia has a state of the art neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) that serves in-house deliveries and tertiary level referrals from the community. Phototherapy, neonatal ventilation, and advanced procedures like surfactant therapy are routinely carried out. Pulse oximeter, ECG and NIBP monitoring equipment is available. Our 24-hours laboratory provides arterial blood gas analysis and other blood investigations at short notice. Our team of doctors and specially trained NICU nurses provide constant close monitoring of babies.
